Staying up late in the Big Apple | Nightlife
It is almost impossible to find a city with more alive at night than New York City, the city that never sleeps. All around Manhattan you can find places to have the time of your life, from the famous theatres of Broadway St., the Irish, Greek or Italian taverns, to the Caribbean night clubs where you can dance salsa and meringue or the ones that houses the world’s best DJs and bands.
Because the whole island stays awake after sunset, there are places for everyone. If you are looking for an alternative atmosphere you should go to East Village, Greenwich Village and the Lower East Side. On the other side, Chelsea and the West Village are the places preferred by gay people. Most of the jazz clubs are in West Village, however you can find some of them in Harlem. If you want to see some of the best DJs perform you must go to SOHO. Anyone in hope of a relaxed night should go to the Uper East Side or Midtown.
If you are hungry and in search of a good meal you can choose between more than a thousand restaurants and cuisines, but the most famous ones are located in Chelsea, the West Village, Hell's Kitchen and the East Village.
Although it seems The Big Apple’s night life has no limits, you must know there are some rules. Unless you are 21 or older you are not allowed to go into some bars or buy alcoholic drinks (everytime you want to buy alcohol you will be asked for an ID). From 4 am (when most of the night clubs close their doors) to 8 am, alcohol sale is forbidden, no matter the buyer’s age. Once bars and night clubs had close you can go on partying in any of the After Hours until sunrise.
