Madrid city is known as the European Capital of the Night and its nightlife is characterized by going from one place to another visiting more than one bar until sunrise. At dawn is time for an early breakfast in one of the many bakeries or sweet shops.
There are several meeting spots where you can start your night. Some of them are the beer halls or typical restaurants of Huerta St. where students meet to enjoy some “tapas” (appetizers or snacks, typical of Spanish cuisine) before going drinking. You can also start by going to see some play in the beer halls.
Santa Bárbara's Square is the place for eating “tapas” and where the most popular cafes and pubs are. People also meet in Fernando IV, Barquillo, Campoamor and Santa Teresa streets.
Near San Vicente Ferrer and Fuencarral, in Bilbao, is located the most popular and exclusive night club of the city, Pachá the best option to enjoy a fashion night in Madrid.
No matter how long has been since you left college, the university area is also one of the best places to spend your night hours. There you will find one of the most lively and amusing atmospheres.
If the cold of the winter let you with no desire to wander the streets you can always spend the night in a cosy cafe. Many of Madrid’s cafes are decorated in a Belle Epoque style and they still have a literary gathering atmosphere, ideal for a relaxed chat or for writing or reading. One of the most famous is Gijón Cafe.
However if it is summer you may sit in one of the many terraces and to have a drink or enjoy a beer. The best terraces are located in Paseo de la Castellana, between Cuzco and Paseo del Prado or in Pintor Rosales and Paseo de Camoens. The ones located in Gran Via are not so popular; however, they are frequented by all kinds of people. In Alcalá St. you will also find many beautiful terraces, ideals for a relaxed night.
